SMETS 1 and SMETS 2: Challenges for UK energy retailers

While small and mid-size UK energy companies are deploying first generation smart meters in the rush for compliance, larger companies are tackling the transition to SMETS2.

Recorded: 28 Sep 2017

Webinar Overview

As the UK’s mandated smart meter rollout moves towards its 2020 end goal of European Commission compliance, energy companies are acutely aware of their deployment obligations. The responsibility to take “all reasonable steps” to install a meter in every one of the UK’s 26 million households sits with gas and electricity distribution network operators and retailers, both large and small.

Delays with the technical infrastructure supplied by the Data and Communications Company are hindering the full-scale deployment of network compatible Smart Meter Equipment Technical Specification 2 meters (SMETS2). So where does that leave smaller tier 2 and tier three energy companies that have nothing on their customers’ walls?

In this webinar, our experts will unpack the need for small and mid-size retailers to plug their compliance hole with SMETS1 meters. Our experts will also analyse examples of successful transitions between SMETS1 and SMETS2 meters in a bid to help you draw out best practice to apply to your own energy company.
