By the end of 2020, the UK government aims to roll-out 53 million smart electricity and gas meters in Great Britain. Smart technology promises benefits to consumers and energy suppliers, distributors and other users, introducing a new level of control and monitoring that can drive cost savings, lower energy consumption and enable more effective network control. However, to integrate and make use of smart meter data, stakeholders in the energy supply chain need to meet stringent DCC data communication and security criteria. As a result, many utility stakeholders will need to adapt their core systems.
