Plamen Popov is a graduate electrical engineer and energy economist from the Technical University and the University of World Economy, both in Sofia, Bulgaria. He has more than 30 years working experience in power transmission and power generation. In the period 1981-2001 he participated in many projects related to power generation control systems and transmission system planning in Bulgaria and Lebanon.
Between 2001 and 2005 Plamen Popov played a leading role in the initial design and opening of the Bulgarian electricity market.
In 2006 Plamen Popov joined Norwegian power generator Statkraft. Since then he has been actively involved in origination of power markets and co-ordination of trading activities in the countries of Central and South-East Europe. His current position is Head of Power Trading for Central/South-East Europe in Statkraft Markets GmbH, based in Dusseldorf, Germany.
