Solar PV combined with battery is reducing fuel poverty in the UK.

The UK Housing Associations are ensuring substantial numbers of social houses and low-income housing are following new energy-efficiency schemes. This allows lower-income families to benefit from a cheaper energy solution that could reduce their current pre-paid high electricity costs ( costs with prepaid electricity are often higher because of their higher credit risk).

This Lightning Talk highlights a project in Gloucester, England, that is now combining solar PV with battery storage, LED lighting and heat pumps to reduce energy costs on many of these homes. The initial feedback from tenants has been very good and a new project including 2000 new homes is subsequently under development.
