Electric mobility, and the integration of the Electric Vehicles in the grid, is expected to demand an advanced smart grid in the mid future. Interoperability is aimed to be a requirement to be fulfilled by the different products and systems, so assessment capabilities for interoperability must be achieved. EC funded COTEVOS initiative has worked to build and offer interoperability tests. In those regions where Electric Vehicles are deploying fast, the need for smart management is showing evident. If the market allows EVs to be deployed as would be expected for environmental reasons, all the stakeholders, from the DSOs to regulators, should be ready to play their role and help build the real smart grid. Almost everybody understands the social and political interest of EV mobility, and its potential relevant place in transportation in the middle future. But there is no clear EV definitive market nor business approach yet, though some incipient business models are arising in different regions, as local EV deployment is high. Where OEMs expect to find a profitable market, so the final prices will be competitive by scale economy or, in the meantime, by incentives, stakeholders around the electricity grid (DSO, TSO, but also Charging Station Operators and Electro Mobility System Providers) are expected to facilitate an interoperable charging system to allow EV users to use their cars as intended: simple, economic and reliable charging. Smart regulatory support is compulsory, in order to allow the most promising business models approaches to become real. Many services around flexibility are expected to become great opportunities and should be assessed and supported. Matthijs Guichelaar, Vandebron, EUW15 Smart Community Award Winner

Vandebron, a peer-to-peer online marketplace for renewable energy With Vandebron, we’ve created an Airbnb-style site for renewable electricity, cutting utilities out of the transaction entirely. One and a half years after launching, 35.000 households in the Netherlands buy their directly from independent producers, such as farmers with wind turbines in their fields. For connecting supply and demand, we simply charge a flat fee. This way, consumers and producers both benefit. Producers can set their own price and are no longer forced to accept what utilities offer. Consumers also save because they don't have to swallow the mark-up utilities charge for passing on that power. Individuals pay exactly what producers price their product at. Vandebron doesn't add anything in the middle. This is how we disrupt the energy market, and we guess that is why we've won the Smart Community Award :) For more analysis, insight and opinion on the latest trends impacting the global energy industry, visit http://www.engerati.com/ Engerati Webinars: http://www.engerati.com/webinars Engerati Articles: http://www.engerati.com/articles Engerati Presentations: http://www.engerati.com/event-presentations
