There's a new way of doing power distribution planning -- one that accounts for advanced strategies such as distributed and "non-controllable" generation, demand response, energy storage and more.

Last week at DistribuTECH, Hugo Bashualo (Senior Manager at Siemens Power Technologies International) presented a paper that covered why and how distribution planning needs to change, and the steps necessary to yield that change. (See video below.)

A key part of achieving these goals is to base distribution planning on actual measurements. The Siemens Smart Grid Diagnostic Kit can help utilities determine which measurements to focus on.
