PRIME Alliance announces availability of Base Node Certification Test program and first successful certified equipment supplier
Representing a key milestone towards the simplification of proving open interoperability, the PRIME Alliance announced today the availability of a comprehensive PRIME Base Node Certification program as well as the successful obtainment of the 1st certification by ZIV, a supplier of PRIME meters and meter data concentrators. Base Node software functionality, which makes up the core PRIME “head end” capability within a Meter Data Concentrator (MDC) is critical to enabling interoperability with various meter manufacturers. The PRIME Alliance, building off of the comprehensive meter certification program that has been in place for several years, will now provide a comprehensive suite of test cases, certification software toolkits, and the definition of the standardized interfaces between the toolkit and the tested devices.
In addition to announcing the availability of the Base Node Certification Program, the PRIME Alliance also announced that ZIV is the first equipment supplier to successfully achieve base node certification utilizing this new process. “After more than 4 years of intense R&D work with the PRIME data concentrator and more than 12,000 units installed, ZIV is especially proud and pleased with this new achievement which marks a new milestone for us and for the PRIME Alliance,” said Cristina Martinez, Application Engineering Manager, ZIV Distribution Automation Systems.
TECNALIA Research & Innovation, an independent laboratory, developed under the PRIME Alliance requirements a new testing tool and program to certify PRIME technology in Base Nodes. The effective test facility covers all capabilities needed to perform the Base Node conformance tests as defined in PRIME Certification Base Node Test Cases v1.3 and is compliant with PRIME Specification 1.3.6. “This latest generation testing facility enables the manufacturers of Meter Data Concentrators to demonstrate full compliance of their products with the PRIME protocol for the Base Node certification,” stated Marta Castro, Head of Smart Meters Laboratory, TECNALIA.
With more PRIME Alliance members’ data concentrators submitted for conformance testing and the Base Node Certification both public and available, PRIME Alliance continues to develop and deliver the standards to ensure true interoperability, making the implementation of smart grids a real and truly competitive product market.
Certification of PRIME products is open to all PRIME Alliance members and membership is open to all potential partners who agree to actively support and promote an open and public specification for the benefit of the end-user and all industry stakeholders. About PRIME Alliance
PRIME (PoweRline Intelligent Metering Evolution) Alliance was created in 2009 to define an open and future-proofed communications PLC-based infrastructure to support large scale smart metering and other smart grid deployments. The PRIME Alliance has attracted key industry players, including Supportive Members ZIV Distribution Automation Systems and Sagemcom. The goal of the Alliance is to provide a framework in which the smart metering and smart grid industry have access to open detailed technical specifications in order to develop fully interoperable solutions, which would allow multiple vendors to be operational within the same distribution network in one common system architecture. Detailed technical specs include Physical PHY layer and Medium Access Control MAC layer specifications.
PRIME Alliance provides a forum for the definition, maintenance and support of an open and comprehensive standard for narrowband power line for Smart Grid products and services. The mission of the Alliance is to accelerate the demand for products and services based on this worldwide standard and promote the broad adoption and use of the specification while certifying multi-vendor interoperability and compatibility with the global standard. The Alliance is open to all potential partners who agree to actively support and promote an open and public specification for the benefit of the end-user and all industry stakeholders. Visit www.prime-alliance.org for more information or to join the Alliance.
