The availability of fundamental data and information on pan-European electricity and gas markets is seen as key to the development of the internal energy market as a single, open and competitive regional market.
In October 2014 the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) launched a Transparency Platform containing comprehensive market data for the gas market.
In January 2015 the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) followed with its Transparency Platform, integrating into a single platform an extensive range of electricity generation, transportation and consumption data from the electricity market.
Transparency Platform for Electricity
Market data is available on ENTSO-E’s platform on over 60 different items across six main categories: load, generation, transmission, balancing, outages, and congestion management. Data may also be downloaded by registered users, who may also customize their dashboard.
“ENTSO-E is proud to have completed this first complex step of delivering a resilient platform on time and in compliance with the Regulation. Our priority is to now rapidly ensure complete, consistent and timely provision of data for all the applicable data categories and borders, to better serve market participants, interested stakeholders and consumers,” said Nick Winser, ENTSO-E president and executive director, National Grid Plc.
Connecting more data to more people
At last count the ENTSO-E Platform was receiving 80,000 data files per day from data providers and data owners, including generation companies, power exchanges, capacity allocation offices, transmission system operators, market balancing operators, distribution system operators and large consumption units. This converts to around 3 million published data values per day in timeframes ranging from 15 minutes to yearly, depending on the data category. The previous entsoe.net platform (which will remain available for consultation) published 300,000 values a day.
Later this year, the data available through the platform is expected to contribute to the implementation of Regulation (EU) No 1227/2011 on wholesale energy market integrity and transparency (REMIT), which will monitor wholesale energy markets and enable the application of sanctions in cases of market abuse.
Gas Transparency Platform
The ENTSOG Transparency Platform includes technical and commercial data on transmission points and their interconnection with storage, LNG, distribution, final consumers and production. All the identified relevant points are illustrated in a new map.
All information is provided by the TSOs and marked with time stamps. Data can be downloaded both manually and automatically.
