A story that caught our eye this week was how German car maker Mercedes-Benz plans to reuse electric vehicle batteries for home and industrial energy storage.
When a plug-in battery is no longer reliably able to power a car, the battery still retains 80% of its original storage capacity.
Not to be outdone by its car-making competitors, Mercedes says the project will create the world’s largest grid storage facility (13MW) deploying used batterieswith enough capacity to power 130,000 homes.
The batteries will also provide energy storage for wind and solar power installations.
