January 2012 saw Argentina break electricity demand records, as temperatures across the country soared, El Inversor reported. Kenya Power expands electricity grid with World Bank’s loan of US$47m.
What happened
Kenya Power borrowed3.9bn shilling (US$47m) from the World Bank, to boost grid connectivity and improve both electrical flexibility and quality in parts of the country says NAM News Network. Off-grid renewable energy could be the answer to sub-Sahara Africa’s power poverty.

Sub-Saharan Africa can depend on off-grid renewable-generated electricity instead of grid-connected power plants, writes Renewable Energy World.
